Dr Jenna Fox, MA RCA Sculpture
Jenna Fox is a British artist in her third year research for a PhD in Fine Art at Reading University. Her work debates notions of identity and place (home and the body – mentally and physically) and explores the dynamics of the internal and external. She reaches out to people to gain insight to inform the work. Kitsch, tongue in cheek, and playful the work stick it’s tongue out at life’s hardships as playfulness is a coping mechanism. Confessional it seeks to expose issues that are often kept silent.
She has had two residencies at Standpoint Gallery and created work for the Warhorse Charity 2020/21, is on permanent display at South Western Rail at Virginia Water station and at Reading station, and shown at The National Trust, RSPB and a solo show at Guildford Cathedral. She was selected for Wells Contemporary 2022. She is currently on a summer residency at Reading University, Art Department.
Nichola, BA(Hon),MLitt Painting GSA
Alumni of the Glasgow School of Art, Nichola is an artist whose practice has been shaped by the landscapes and culture surrounding her. Initially, she worked with traditional methods, creating pieces that offered a sense of permanence. However, as her awareness of environmental issues grew, she began questioning the sustainability of these practices and materials. This led Nichola to shift from creating fixed objects to embracing a more fluid, nature-driven, ephemeral approach.
Her health over the past few years has dictated how she manages her practice and as foraging, initially for relaxation, became central to her practice. She has had to enlist the help of her partner, (you never see him but he is there helping with and supporting all she does) with gathering organic materials and to do the heavier or more challenging jobs to allow her to continue to connect with the environment he has become her assistant in her work and helping to implement her ideas, by experimenting with natural pigments, making materials and exploring the creative potential of edible and medicinal plants. This approach aligned her practice with an eco-conscious philosophy, emphasising impermanence, biodegradability, mirroring the cyclical rhythms of nature and connecting with others.
