“Eco Materials

This issue of HAUS-A-REST explores creative practices that work with, rather than against, the natural world. We welcomed work that embraces recycled, reclaimed, biodegradable, renewable, and naturally sourced materials, alongside writing that reflects on environmental awareness, ecological storytelling, climate, repair, renewal, and our evolving relationship with the planet.

Whether through visual art, poetry, essays, experimental writing, photography, sculpture, textiles, installation, or interdisciplinary practice, we invited work that considers sustainability as both a material choice and a creative philosophy.

How do the materials we use shape the stories we tell? Can making become an act of restoration? What possibilities emerge when we create with what already exists?

Join us as we explore how artists and writers are responding to the environmental challenges of our time, not through perfection, but through curiosity, experimentation, and thoughtful making.

Editors,Dr Jenna Fox, and Nichola Rodgers have been busy with exhibitions, commissions, changing studios and setting up workshops, see their work and incites on finding the right space in the blog.

Thank you to everyone who submitted, who shared, and who trusted us with something real. It takes courage to hand over the hidden parts, and this issue is proof of just how much power lives there.

Our Micro Residencies

We’re excited to continue these Micro-Residency, a small but intentional space for artists, writers, and creative thinkers who want to deepen their practice, expand their ideas, and receive thoughtful guidance along the way.

The HAUS-A-REST Micro-Residency is built on the belief that artists don’t always need grand studios, vast budgets, or months away from the world, they often need attention, exchange, and a context in which their ideas can breathe.

In a time of constant accumulation, of information, pressure, expectation, this residency offers a moment to sift, sharpen, and reimagine. It’s a place to sort through your creative overflow, to cultivate clarity, or to find excitement in the mess.
