Jenna Fox artist news - PHD -Becoming Many: Preparing for My Exhibition and Viva
After years of research, writing, and creative exploration, I’ve submitted my PhD thesis, a project that asks a deceptively simple question:
"What are the implications for an artist using an alter ego as a creative space?"
This question has guided me through layers of identity, authorship, performance, and play. It’s also led me to create not just work, but selves, a cast of alter egos who now co-exist with me in the studio, on the page, and soon, in the gallery.
With the thesis submitted, I’m now immersed in the next phase: preparing for my exhibition and Viva. The upcoming show is a joint exhibition, a collaboration between me and the alter egos I’ve developed throughout my research. Together, we’re presenting 14 pieces, each accompanied by its own narrative, each inhabiting its own voice, history, and aesthetic. It's not just an exhibition of works, it’s a polyphonic reflection on what it means to be multiple.
One of the installations, titled "Every Body Stand Still," is a meditation on embodiment, identity, and presence. It’s a moment of pause in the movement between personas, a still point where all voices meet and momentarily hold space together.
As the lines between artist and alter ego blur, this exhibition invites viewers to consider not just who is speaking, but how many versions of the self are speaking at once.
